Belden to Provide New Communications Infrastructure At New Delhi International Airport

The BELDEN IBDN Structured Cabling System is the basis behind the DIAL T3, which is the fifth largest airport in the world.

New Delhi International Airport Private Limited (DIAL) has chosen Belden [NYSE: BDC] to build one of the most extensive and comprehensive structured cabling ever deployed by an international airport in India.

Founded in 2006, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) is a public-private partnership initiative with a 30-year mandate to finance, design, build, operate and maintain Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The company is a joint venture between the GMR Group, the Airports Authority of India, Fraport AG, Eraman Malaysia and the India Development Fund.

In taking over the management of Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, DIAL inherited a number of legacy IT systems which were not fully integrated. The company wanted a new solution that would fully integrate these systems and optimise operations.

"A strong cabling infrastructure is critical in a project like this," says Sivaram Tadepalli, CTO of New Delhi International Airport Ltd. "It improves speed, performance and control in an always-on environment."

Working with IBM Global Business Services, Belden identified the key client requirements for limited down time, location tracking, flexibility (with easy add/remove), and improved maintenance for its significant LAN setup.
The Belden solution for these requirements is copper Cat6 and single mode fibre cabling with Intelligence Physical Layer Management Solution (IPLMS) software that will monitor, control and maintain the networks infrastructure over the long term.

"The Belden IBDN solution gives us the flexibility and manageability we need to operate an airport 24/7," says Sivaram Tadepalli. "The IPLMS is ideal for airports because it assists us in planning, managed implementation, control and efficiency to the physical layer to all of our tenants airlines, duty-free shops, immigration and customs."

Naresh Kumra, Belden's executive vice president Asia Pacific operations, said throughout the company's 107 year history, Belden has supported the innovations of prestigious events and institutions around the world.

"We are proud to support DIAL on this very important project for India, and are honoured by the trust that DIAL has placed in Belden. Managing large and complex projects of this kind requires unique technical and service capabilities, and we look forward to leveraging these Belden strengths for DIAL, along with all of our customers in India."
